Preschool is a large milestone in your child’s life. It’s also a milestone marked by significant change, and many children experience some anxiety about being in a new place with new people. In this post, we’ll discuss a few easy ways to help your child feel more comfortable and confident as they attend preschool.

At Tiny Turtles Preschool of Jupiter, we take pride in providing an environment that makes children feel supported and cared for as we teach them valuable skills and help them prepare for future education. We would love to tell you more about our preschool programscontact us to schedule a tour when you’ve finished reading this post!

Take a Tour

One of the best ways to ease anxiety is to make the unfamiliar a bit more familiar. It’s a good idea to schedule a tour before your child’s first day so that they can get to know the area and will have a better idea of where they’ll be spending their time. This is also a great time to introduce your child to the staff members and build a trusting relationship.

Schedule Playdates

If your child has friends or acquaintances who will be attending preschool with them, now is the perfect time to schedule playdates with the other children (keeping COVID-19 precautions in mind until everyone has been vaccinated, of course). Meeting at a park or another outdoor area is the perfect way for your child to develop a valuable relationship that will help them adjust to and cope with the change of being away from home. If your child doesn’t currently have any friends who will be attending the preschool, this is the perfect time to encourage them to make new ones they can play with on the weekends!

Stay Positive

Children emulate what they see. If you feel anxious and are having a difficult time adjusting to your child being away from home, confide in your spouse, friends, or family members instead of showing those emotions to your child. Instead, be positive and encourage them to make new friends and try new things. Building your child’s confidence from an early age is one of the most important things you can do to set your child up for success in the future!

Talk to Your Child’s Teacher

If you’ve tried these tips and your child still feels anxious about preschool and is having trouble adjusting, it’s worth mentioning it to their teacher. Preschool teachers — especially those at Tiny Turtles Preschool of Jupiter — have helped countless children cope with the change of attending preschool. We’re here to partner with you and make sure that your child feels happy and safe whenever they’re here!
